The text in the manual also refers to tool length and cutter compensation in parameter 5001 (obviously mill usage) and refers to calling tool offsets with the T code in 5002 (lathe usage). It is the opposite in the mill where 5001 is labelled and functional and 5002 is not labelled and seems to have no function. #5001 is not labelled and seems to have no function. In my lathes, bits 0 thru 7 of parameter 5002 are labelled and functional and I can make changes to them as required. Parameter #5002 controls machine behaviour during activation and cancellation of tool offsets as suggested but this parameter applies to a lathe only as far as I can tell.

The problem with the manuals is that the English translations are so poor and they have so many errors in them that it still is a challenge to make changes without some trial and error. We do have the parameter manuals, we routinely use system variables in our automated processes, as well as the normal parametric programming methods and none of this would happen without having the manuals. However, it was not tool changes that we were having problems with, it was making sure that all offsets were cleared at the time the tool was positioned over the Renishaw tool probe. On our machine, M6 sends the Z to reference and initiates the tool change, no other code is required. Lesson learned, now I have to explain it to the supplier. We had a positive length G43 tool offset active and the cancellation by "H0" took out the probe. It was this well intentioned addition that doomed the tool setter. As a last minute addition for safety, they added an "H0" command to the start of the program. One of the first lines in their tool setter macros examines the status of system variable #4111 and simply throws a "TOOL OFFSET ACTIVE" if #4111 is greater than zero.ģ) Our machine distributor did the installation of the tool setter and wrote a G65 type of macro call to carry the tool number into the Renishaw macros. Using G49 H0 as a separate line of code after the G28 line will completely cancel the tool offset and clear the #4111 variable.Ģ) Renishaw is well aware of this. I would be willing to bet a whole lot of good Canadian beer that this is true of any Fanuc controlled milling machine. You can prove this by examining the system variables #4111 (H code) and #4008 (machine status of G43, G44 or G49). We worked all day on this issue and this what we found ġ)G91 G28 Z0 sends the machine to the Z reference position as everyone suggested (our normal programming practice) but G43 and the previously active H code are still active in the control. Is there any way to set the parameters to simply cancel tool length offsets without moving the Z axis? The presetter probe was knocked off in the first 5 minutes because the distributor of the machine put an "H0" command in his presetter program which simply dropped the Z axis into the presetter.
While not an issue for normal programming, it does make it difficult to use the tool presetter safely. The machine will first make a Z movement in rapid that is equal to the inverse of the tool offset, meaning that if my tool is 1" long, the machine will first rapid Z-1" and then move up 5" incrementally. I can useĪnd it works the way I want, it goes to the Z reference position and the tool length offset is gone. I have read everything that I can in the operator and parameter manual and I am having trouble cancelling tool length offset (G49 or H0) without having the machine move by the tool length amount.
